City Government

The City of Hollister is a General Law City and is governed by a “Council Manager” form of government. The Council, as the legislative body, represents the citizens of Hollister, and is empowered by the Municipal Code to formulate citywide policy, enact local legislation, adopt budgets, and appoint the City Manager and City Attorney. The City of Hollister has over 200 full-time employees and an operating budget of over $70,000,000.

As of the November 2012 election, the City Council consists of four Council Members who are each elected by voters in their district and serve staggered four-year terms. The Vice Mayor is elected from among themselves every year at the first meeting in January. The Mayor is elected by all the voters in Hollister for a two year term. Elections are held in November of even-numbered years. The City Treasurer is also an elected official of the City.
