CITY
APPROVES NEW SHELTER
The City of Hollister Council authorized the purchase
of land next to the Hollister Police Department
for the new animal shelter. The City Council also
chose the architect to over see the project. The
new facility is being funded by the Redevelopment
Agency and Police Impact Fees.
The new animal shelter is long overdue, and just
in time, the current facility is in deplorable
condition. Constructed in 1982 to house 1500 animals
and staff two persons. In 2002 the shelter housed
over 4000 animals, responded to over 3300 calls
for service and employed 6 full time staff, along
with numerous volunteers.
We are very exited and welcome suggestions or
ideas as we begin the process of building a state
of the art animal facility.

In
an effort to increase our adoptions, and thanks

CITY OF HOLLISTER DOG LICENSES
The
Hollister Animal Shelter is conducting a campaign
to license as many dogs as possible that reside
in the City limits of Hollister. Each year thousands
of animals are euthanized in animal shelter’s
across the nation who are lost, simply because
they don’t have any identification tags on their
collars. Simply fill out the license application
on the back of this newsletter, attach a copy
of your pets rabies vaccination certificate along
with the appropriate fees and we will mail back
your pet’s dog license, or simply stop by City
Hall or the Animal Shelter.
MICROCHIP YOUR PET! IT’S A SURE TRIP HOME
Just last week a citizen found a dog and brought
it to the shelter to check for a micro-chip. Sure
enough it was chipped. Officers immediately phoned
the owner who advised us she had lost her dog
in Gilroy last week. This is a prime example we
urge every pet owner to micro-chip their pets,
it’s a sure trip home. The shelter provides micro-chipping
for $18.50 which includes the registration.
HARK! HARK! DOES YOUR DOG BARK?
Uncontrolled barking or barking for no apparent
reason are signs of behavior problems. Give your
dogs plenty of exercise and teach them obedience,
teach your dogs its not OK to bark continuously,
and your neighbor will love you for it. The Animal
Control urges all dog owners to be responsible
for their animals behavior to ensure a peaceful
neighborhood.
